2026 | Consequence and Concurrence

While each of my two previous expeditions to Bhutan in 2003 and 2015 gave me great insight into the gradual evolution of an isolated Himalayan medieval culture, last year’s 2025 journey yielded a rapidly developing modern society. This ancient world inhabited by a national population of 800,000 is now guided by the precepts of the state-of-the-art Bhutanese law school – Justice, Service & Wisdom. These advanced conventions are becoming foundational to all aspects of this developing enlightened way of life. While retaining many traditions, new thoughtful practice is gently woven into current understanding and use of science, sociology, traditions, customs, rituals, and language. Much as contemporary medicine combines established shamanic approaches with the availability of cutting-edge medical science, every discipline evaluates and adopts new information that would enhance life for all.

Consequence of all action is understood in terms of at least 100 years. This unusual foresight ordains a prudent and careful approach to all interactions and planning. With its new City of Mindfulness, Bhutan becomes a brilliant model for all governmental decisions.
