I was privileged to have been invited to participate in the International Painters’ Symposium: Retorno Al Miktlan which was held in Mexico City, Oct 25 – November 9th, 2021. The symposium was themed on the Day of the Dead and the beauty and poignance of this sacred holiday was ubiquitously evident. 25 artists representing 23 countries worked closely together within the courtyard and offices of the Universidad Polytechno’s 19th C building close to the Zocalo in the heart of Mexico City. We were most generously taken care of in all ways, enjoyed wonderful meals at the Bagdad Café, were taken on 3 excursions to Tepestlan, Xochimilco, the pyramids of Xochichalco, and the Anthroplogy Museum in Mexico City. We were also gifted with concerts, lectures, marvelous dinners in special venues. And we were expected to produce artwork that would be exhibited in the exhibition held before we left and 2 pieces by each artist remained in the collection of KAM KupulaArtMexico.
